The Perspective Warp tool allows users to modify the perspective of content and warp it onto non-planar objects to approximate 3D surfaces using 2D tools.
Changing the perspective of content is useful for when your projector is not pointing directly at a flat surface, but you want your content to look as if it is flat/undistorted when playing back. A common example is projecting an image or video on a frame; using the corners of Perspective Warp, you can quickly adjust your content to fit correctly inside the frame. By pinning the Asset layer's corners to the corresponding corners of the Surface, the perspective of the content is shifted to match the perspective of the frame.
This is also known as corner pinning or the adjustment of the planar perspective of a rectangular piece of content. Corner pinning uses 4 points to construct a new 3D perspective of the content.
Perspective Warp Mode
As of Lightform Creator 2.0, the Perspective Warp tool has replaced the Structure tool. It is accessible through the toolbar button with the same icon as the old Structure tool. To open projects created by older versions of Lightform Creator, read about the Project Warning Message for Structure Data.
By default, content is not deformed and looks flat. The Perspective Warp tool operates on content. To use it, you must first select an Asset layer.
Manually change the perspective of individual content
To automatically change the perspective and corner pin one asset layer in a Surface:
- Select an Asset layer.
- Click on the Perspective Warp icon in the toolbar or press I.
- Click and drag on the four corners to match the shape of the Surface
- Content can also be scaled and rotated in this mode, while keeping the perspective intact.
Automatically fit individual content to Surface
To automatically change the perspective and corner pin one asset layer in a Surface:
- Select an Asset layer.
- You can find a "Perspective" group in the Properties Panel.
- Click Fit to Surface: Automatically adjusts the content's perspective to match the Surface's dimensions when clicked. It is only enabled if the Surface contains 4 points.
- Reset: Removes the Perspective Warp when clicked. This button will be disabled if there is no perspective warp.
Automatically fit all content to Surface
To automatically change the perspective and corner pin all asset layers in a Surface:
- Select a Surface layer.
- You can find a "Perspective" group in the Properties Panel on the right side of the interface.
- Toggle Auto Fit New Content: Automatically adjusts the content's perspective to match the Surface's dimensions for all Asset layers in a Surface. Enabling this control is the equivalent to manually performing "Fit to Surface" on each Asset layer.
