The Magic Wand tool selects pixels of the scan image (either color or disparity) that are similar to the pixel at the click location.
How to create a surface with Magic Wand
- To activate Magic Wand, click on the Magic Wand Icon on the Toolbar or press W.
- In the options bar, specify any of the following:
-
Add & Subtract Mode: Choose between positive and negative strokes — the mask is continually updated based on new positive/negative strokes. Positive strokes provide information that we want to retain or add to the selection. Negative strokes provide information that we want to remove from the selection.
-
Tolerance: Adjust the color tolerance value with the Tolerance slider. When you click with the Magic Wand, your selection will consist of connecting areas that are a similar color to the original clicked pixel, based on the set color tolerance. A lower tolerance selects a smaller range of colors and a higher tolerance selects a larger range of colors, which results in a larger selected area (higher tolerance = larger selection).
-
Color/Disparity: Lightform Creator provides vision assisted tools that leverage both RGB information and Depth information. Toggle between Color and Disparity to switch from a color-based selection and a disparity-based selection.
-
Connectivity: If Connected is selected, all adjacent pixels within the tolerance range are selected. Otherwise, all pixels across the artboard in the tolerance range are selected.
-
- In the artboard, click on colors that you want to include in the Surface.
- Click the Create Surface button.
- In the options bar, make any of the following adjustments:
-
Modify Edge: Grows or shrinks the selection by a set number of pixels (between 1px and 10px).
- Accuracy: Adjust the allowed error between the mask and the generated curve. Higher values mean more vertices.
- Note: When a surface is created, boolean operations are applied to allow for the creation of paths. When surfaces have too many points, too many paths are generated which can lead to slow rendering and processing times. Adjust the modify edge and accuracy settings to reduce the number of points on a surface. Alternatively, you can switch the masking tool to something like brush to create a cleaner surface without as many holes, thereby reducing the number of paths.
-
- Click the Done button when you are satisfied with your Magic Wand selection. A final mask with adjustable vertices will be created based on the selection.
