Check to see if your computer, Wi-Fi network, and projector meet our minimum requirements
Computer Requirements
We are actively developing and testing our software on various machines and operating systems. Below you can find our current recommendations. Updated June 1, 2020.
OS | MacOS 10.13+ or Windows 10
CPU | Windows: 64-bit Intel or AMD processor macOS: 64-bit Intel or Apple M1 processor |
|
Graphics | Most GPUs supporting OpenGL 4.1+
RAM | 8 GB of RAM minimum (16 GB+ recommended)
Disk space | 1 GB of free disk space for install
Network Access | Wi-Fi or Ethernet Connection |
Please Note:
Lightform Creator is a processor-intensive software similar to a video game. While Lightform Creator may run with these minimum requirements, modern computers suitable for media and graphics are recommended.
Known Issues
We have seen a few instances of the following machines exhibiting speckles that appear when adding media or an effect to a surface in Lightform Creator. This issue does not affect published projects. If you experience this issue, please submit a bug report.
- MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, 2015)
- MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)
- MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2014)
- MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2013)
We have seen a few instances of the following Mac machines with Geforce GT series graphics cards (650M and 750M) exhibiting text corruption in Lightform Creator (e.g., character deletion, illegible text):
- MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)
- MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
- MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013)

- iMac (Late 2012)
If Lightform Creator does not run on your machine, or you are having trouble using the software, please submit a ticket or a bug report within the application.
- Touchscreens such as Microsoft Surface Pros are not supported.
- OSC color parameters are not working.
Wi-Fi Network Requirements
Please make sure you are using a supported network type. If you are unable to meet these Wi-Fi requirements, you will need to connect your Lightform device to your router via an Ethernet cable or take the device somewhere with a supported Wi-Fi network to get started.
Supported Network Types
- 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi networks*
- WPA/WPA2 Personal networks, WEP, Unsecured
*On LF1, 5GHz is not supported (must use 2.4GHz)
Unsupported Network Types
- WPA/WPA2 Enterprise
- Captive Portal: Networks like you find at airports, hotels, coffee shops, or corporate/university networks that use 802.11x i.e. "xfinitywifi". On these networks, you are asked to sign in on a web page, before you can connect.
Projector Compatibility
The LF1 & LFC were designed to work with most projectors. Once you connect your LF1 or LFC, it automatically detects and calibrates to your projector during the scan process. To look up your projector's specs, including throw ratio, see projector central's search page. The LF2 an all in one solution -- it is a projector that has a camera built into it. The LF2 supports itself and cannot be used in tandem with another projector.
Please select your device:
Max resolution | 1920x1200@60hz* |
Throw Ratio | 0.5-2.0 |
HDMI input | Yes |
Brightness | 1,000-100,000 lumens is recommended for best results with LFC (depending on ambient light). If LFC can see the projected image and the projection is in focus, then it can perform a scan. |
*The output signal of the LFC is limited to 1920x1200 but it works with projectors whose resolution is greater than that (e.g., 4K). For projectors with resolution greater than 1920x1200, the projector will automatically upscale the signal from the Lightform device to match the native resolution of the projector. To look up your projector's specs, including throw ratio, see projector central's search page. Lightform does not support resolutions @120hz.

Max resolution | 1920x1200* |
Throw Ratio | 0.85-1.8 ("Standard Throw") |
HDMI input | Yes |
Brightness | If you can see the projection with your naked eye (without sunglasses), then the LF1 can scan. |
